An Easier and Faster Digging Experience With Opera

The method I am currently using to ease the experience of digging my friends consists of right clicking on the title (from this page -> http://www.digg.com/users/[yourusername]/friends/submissions) of each story (or holding down cntrl and left clicking) and opening each story in new tabs. The problem is that seven or so tabs being opened in Firefox tends to cause an annoying freeze of the browser.

So I decided to give Opera a try (but I can’t sing very well, so I tried the Opera browser next). I noticed that Opera (version 9.23 is what I have) has an “Open in background tab” option when right clicking (or holding down cntrl-shift-enter while left clicking), which allows me to open all the stories on the page in the background, but without any stalls at all. I found out that you can do this in Firefox, but it still stalls after opening about seven tabs. When I finally got all the tabs open, Firefox grabbed about 200K of RAM while Opera gobbled about 130K.

Please post your experiences in the comments, and happy digging!

Note: I will still be implementing a grease monkey script (to restore the previous way of digging your friends) and the integration of a direct digg button into Notifir.com. I just don’t know exactly when at this point. ThemBid.com’s rapid growth (with its nearly launched new vertical niche) has been consuming my time at the moment.

The grease monkey script has already been created and works perfectly fine. You can find it here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/12708

    Enjoy. :)
